This will be short and sweet.  We all hear people say Second Life is an adult game.  I hear that over and over again.  Well, it may be an adult game but there were no safeguards in place until a few months back that only Adults were viewing adult content.  When you join SL and do not post any payment info, you can be anyone, even a kid.  A few months back, Linden Labs started to move all adult content to a new area called Zindra.  I have strong opinions on how they did this and the lack of information as to what is adult content.  But that will be for another article. For this article you should know that for 90% of adult content on SL, all you have to do is post payment info; this is a very simple task and you will have full access to all SL has to offer.

Now some proactive sim owners that wish to make sure their content is being seen by age verified adults can require that you be age verified.  Again this is a simple process and handled by a 3^rd party secure company; none of your RL information is ever passed on to Linden Labs.  So below are easy instructions on how to become adult or age verified.

If you would like to access Adult search results and Adult Regions, you need to do the following things:

Your account needs to be verified
You need to opt in to view Adult content by changing a setting in the Preferences window

If you followed a link from search results and are interested in verifying your account and viewing Adult content, read and follow the instructions below.

Most Residents are already Adult verified. Your account should already be verified as Adult if you have ever:

       Had a payment relationship with Linden Lab.

       Added US$ to your XStreet account using a verified PayPal account.

       Gone through the Age Verification process.

If you have participated in one of the above account options, your account is verified as Adult and you can now opt in to view Adult Content.

Set up a payment relationship with Linden Lab:

Login to your My Account page.

Select Update Billing Information under the Membership section.Select Update Credit Card Info or Continue to PayPal.

 Enter either a credit card number or a verified PayPal account.

Allow a few moments for your account information to update.

How to get Age verified

In order to access all the new adult regions and content in Second Life, you will need to be age verified. There are several ways to do this:

1.     * Have payment info on file for your account

2.     * Have payment info on file with XStreet.com

3.     * Go through the age verification process on the Second Life web site

These instructions will focus on the final option. If you already have payment info or have verified, skip to the end for instructions on setting your preferences.

AGE VERIFICATION

If you are logged into Second Life. Go to your "World" menu and choose "Manage My Account." This will take you to your account web page. If you are not already logged in to your account, do so now.

Choose the "Age Verification" link from the left side of the screen, or you can use this URL:

Exact documents may vary depending on your country of residence, but may include:

    * Passport

    * Driver's license

    * National ID number

    * Social security number

If you are a United States citizen, the easiest way to verify is with the last four digits of your social security number. I can't speak for other countries. In the U.S. my choices were driver's license or last four of my social. Since I didn't need to give my ENTIRE social security number, I used the last four option.

Once you have all your information in, check the box verifying its accuracy and submit it. You will know immediately if your verification was successful.

You will need to log out of SL and back in again in order for your verification to be in effect.

SETTING PREFERENCES

Once you are verified, you STILL won't be able to go wherever you want in Second Life unless you set your preferences to allow you to do so.

While logged into Second Life, go to your "Edit" menu and choose "Preferences..."

Under the "General" tab you will find a drop-down menu titled "I want to access content rated:"

Set this menu option to "PG, Mature and Adult"

You're done. You should be able to go everywhere in Second Life.

SETTING SEARCH

One last thing. You will be able to go everywhere, but you may not be able to find everything. Open your search window and check all the boxes... PG, Mature, and Adult. That way you'll get ALL the search results unfiltered.
